Neeru Dhanda Wins India's Fifth Gold With Record-Breaking Trap Title

Neeru Dhanda became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games medal in trap or skeet shooting, striking gold in the individual trap final with a Games-record score of 28 that shattered the previous Asian record of 24. It is India's fifth gold of the Games.

The 26-year-old from Haryana had earlier qualified for the eight-shooter final as joint topper alongside Qatar's Ray Bassil on 118, a qualification Games record, before missing just twice across the entire final to complete the individual title. It came hours after she anchored India to silver in the women's team trap event, combining with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer for a total of 328, behind gold medallists China on 346.

India's last individual trap gold at the Asian Games came from Randhir Singh in the men's event at Bangkok 1978, with Ronjan Sodhi later winning men's double trap gold in 2010. Dhanda had already made history this year, becoming the first Indian woman to win a Shotgun World Cup gold in trap, in Italy in July.
