Rohit Sharma Completes 12,000 ODI Runs, Third Indian After Tendulkar and Kohli

Rohit Sharma completed 12,000 ODI runs during India's chase in the second ODI against West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. He is the third Indian to reach the landmark, after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Rohit began the match on 11,927 runs and needed 73 to get there. He reached the mark on exactly 73, with a single off Roston Chase in the 16th over. India were 146 without loss at that stage, chasing a target of 406 after West Indies posted 405 for 7. He had already passed fifty by then, including three successive sixes off Keemo Paul. There was no celebration and no raised bat as he took the single.

The milestone came in his 282nd ODI innings, the second fastest to 12,000 runs behind Kohli, who needed 242. Tendulkar took 300 innings, Ricky Ponting 314 and Kumar Sangakkara 336. Rohit is also second quickest by balls faced, at 12,973 to Kohli's 12,853.

He and captain Shubman Gill had added 146 for the first wicket when Rohit crossed the mark. It was his 63rd ODI fifty. The 39-year-old began the day with 34 ODI hundreds and a best score of 264.
