Five Centuries in One ODI: Guwahati Creates History in India vs West Indies
The 2nd ODI between India and West Indies at Guwahati produced a first in cricket history. It became the first ODI ever to feature five centuries. Rohit Sharma's hundred in the chase was the fifth of the day.
Until now, four centuries was the highest in a single ODI. That had happened only four times before, including one women's ODI. Guwahati went one better.
West Indies started the century rush. They piled up 405/7 at the Barsapara Stadium. Amir Jangoo hit 114 off 77 balls. Shai Hope made 104 off 94 balls. John Campbell smashed 101 off 68 balls, the fastest ODI hundred by a West Indian against India. Hope and Jangoo added 182 for the third wicket.
India's openers then answered in style. Rohit Sharma scored 101 off 75 balls. It was his 35th ODI century. Shubman Gill went on to make an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls. The two openers put on 255 runs for the first wicket in just 158 balls.
India reached 406/2 in only 43.3 overs and won by 8 wickets. It was the second successful chase of over 400 in ODI history. Kuldeep Yadav was India's best bowler earlier in the day, finishing with 2 wickets for 65 runs.
Gill is in top form ahead of the 2027 World Cup. He had also scored a century in the series opener at Thiruvananthapuram. India lead the series 2-0 with one ODI to play.
