Japan Win Three More Judo Golds, China Deny Clean Sweep
Japan won three more judo golds at the Asian Games in Nagoya, taking the men's -90kg, men's -100kg and women's -78kg titles, with China claiming the women's +78kg gold to deny the hosts a clean sweep on the day.
In the men's -90kg final, Japan beat Kyrgyzstan, with China and South Korea sharing bronze. Japan backed that up in the men's -100kg final, beating Tajikistan to gold, with Uzbekistan taking bronze. In the women's -78kg final, Japan beat South Korea, with Lebanon and Kazakhstan sharing bronze.
China avoided a Japanese sweep of the day's finals by winning the women's +78kg gold, beating South Korea, with Mongolia and Japan sharing bronze.
The results continue Japan's dominant showing on home judo mats, having also won two golds on the discipline's opening day earlier in the week. With three more titles added on the day, Japan has now won five of the judo golds decided so far at these Games, well clear of the chasing pack as the competition heads toward its closing stages at the Aichi International Arena. Japan won five judo golds in total at Hangzhou 2023, a mark the hosts have now equalled with a handful of weight categories still to be contested in Nagoya.
