Malaysia Upset China in Keirin as Japan Win Madison and Omnium Golds
China and Japan shared the spoils on another busy day of track cycling at the Asian Games, with China's grip on the women's sprint events continuing and Japan striking gold in the endurance events on home boards.
Malaysia provided the surprise of the session, winning the men's keirin gold ahead of China, who took silver and bronze. Japan then won the men's madison, beating China into silver with Uzbekistan taking bronze, before adding a second gold in the women's omnium, ahead of Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
China continued their dominance of the women's sprint, winning gold and bronze in the event, with Japan splitting the Chinese pair to take silver.
The results cap a strong week for China and Japan on the track at the Aichi Velodrome, with China having already swept the team pursuit and team sprint golds earlier in the programme before Malaysia's keirin win denied them a clean sweep of the individual sprint events too. Japan's two golds on the day, in the men's madison and women's omnium, reflect the strength of the host nation's endurance riders, complementing the sprint medals won by China and Malaysia as the track programme nears its conclusion in Nagoya.
