South Korea Beat Chinese Taipei to League of Legends Gold

South Korea won gold in the League of Legends event at the Asian Games esports programme in Nagoya, beating Chinese Taipei in the final.

The win adds League of Legends gold to South Korea's esports medal collection at these Games, a title the country has traditionally been among the strongest contenders for given the strength of its domestic competitive gaming scene, one of the most established in the world. Chinese Taipei's silver continues a solid Games for the team, who have been competitive across several of the esports titles on the Asian Games programme in Nagoya.

The result adds to what has already been a varied esports medal table at these Games, with five different nations, Malaysia, Iran, China, South Korea and Japan, having won gold across the earlier finals in titles spanning racing, football, battle royale and fighting game disciplines. South Korea's win in League of Legends, one of the most widely followed titles on the programme globally, is likely to be one of the most closely watched results of the esports competition.

Esports remains a demonstration-turned-medal discipline at the Asian Games, having first been included as a medal sport at Hangzhou 2023, and continues to expand its footprint at these Games with a wider range of titles on the programme in Nagoya than at the previous edition.
