China Fill Tennis Singles Podium, Thailand Win Beach Volleyball Gold

China won gold and silver in the tennis women's singles final at the Asian Games in Nagoya, with an all-Chinese podium decider settling the title, while Thailand won gold in beach volleyball's women's event elsewhere in the programme.

China's top seed beat her compatriot in straight sets in the women's singles final, continuing the country's strong run in Asian tennis. The result means China has topped the women's singles podium for a second successive edition of the Games, with the all-Chinese final reflecting the depth of the country's women's tennis programme at continental level. In men's doubles, decided a day earlier, Japan had beaten South Korea to gold.

In beach volleyball, Thailand won the women's gold medal match, beating China in the final, with the Philippines taking bronze. Thailand have a strong pedigree in the discipline at continental level, and the win adds another gold to a Games that has already seen the country feature prominently across combat and beach sports.

Both results round out two more of the Games' net and court-based disciplines, with tennis's team and mixed doubles events still to be completed and beach volleyball's men's final still to come as the respective programmes in Nagoya move toward their closing stages.
