Kumkum Mohod Wins India's First Individual Recurve Archery Medal With Gold
Kumkum Mohod became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve archery medal at the Asian Games, beating South Korea's Yejin Oh in the gold medal match at Okazaki Central Park, capping a historic week for the 17-year-old.
Mohod reached the final by beating China's Zhu Jingyi 6-2 in the semi-final, sealing the contest with a 10 on her final arrow after both archers had traded 9s and 10s through the fourth set. China's Yuwei Huang took bronze.
It is Mohod's third medal of the Games, having earlier combined with Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma to win India's first-ever Asian Games women's recurve team gold, beating South Korea 5-3, before adding a mixed team silver alongside Dhiraj Bommadevara. The individual gold completes a breakout campaign for the teenager and marks a historic shift in a discipline South Korea has dominated for decades.
