Lovlina Borgohain Headlines India's Historic Boxing Gold Sweep
India enjoyed their best-ever day in Asian Games boxing, sweeping all three gold medal finals they contested, with Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal all striking gold within hours of each other at Aichi-Nagoya.
Borgohain got the day started, beating China's Ziyi Bao 5-0 in the women's 75kg final to win on her birthday and become only the second Indian woman boxer to win Asian Games gold, after Mary Kom's triumph in 2014. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist had earlier beaten South Korea's Seong Suyeon and Kazakhstan's Natalya Bogdanova to reach the final.
Parveen Hooda followed with gold in the women's 65kg category, before Ankush Panghal completed the hat-trick in the men's 80kg final, beating South Korea's Kim Minseong 4-0 to win India's first men's 80kg boxing gold at the Asian Games since 2018.
The three golds took India's overall tally to 75 medals on the day, alongside a maiden women's hockey title and a wrestling gold for Sujeet in the men's freestyle 65kg category, making it one of the most productive single days in the country's Asian Games history.
