Bayern Munich Draw 2-2 With Dortmund as Fabio Silva Scores 89th-Minute Equaliser After Kane Penalty Miss
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund drew 2-2 in Der Klassiker at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, October 31, in a Bundesliga Matchday 8 game. Substitute Fabio Silva scored Dortmund's equaliser in the 89th minute, after Bayern had led twice. The draw leaves the two clubs level on points at the top of the table. Bayern lead only on goal difference.
Bayern were the better team for most of the afternoon, but they could not finish the job. Konrad Laimer opened the scoring in the 38th minute. Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel saved his first shot, and the ball came back to Laimer, who put it into the net. Dortmund had a goal from Jobe Bellingham ruled out for offside earlier in the half.
Bayern had a chance to double the lead early in the second half. Felix Nmecha handled the ball in the box, and a penalty was given. Harry Kane, who had brought his Ballon d'Or trophy onto the pitch before kickoff, took it in the 56th minute. His shot hit the crossbar. Dortmund punished him quickly. Captain Nico Schlotterbeck charged up the pitch and found Chukwuemeka, who laid the ball off for Serhou Guirassy. He scored at the near post in the 60th minute to make it 1-1.
Bayern went ahead again six minutes later. Joshua Kimmich swung in a corner, and Kane headed the ball down for Dayot Upamecano, who finished from close range in the 66th minute. It gave Kane an assist to make up for his missed penalty.
Dortmund coach Niko Kovac made a double change that changed the game. In the 89th minute, Konstantinos Karetsas won the ball from Aleksandar Pavlovic and squared it for fellow substitute Fabio Silva. Silva drilled a right-footed shot into the bottom corner past Jonas Urbig. The goal was checked by VAR and allowed to stand. In the last moments of stoppage time, Lennart Karl hit the crossbar for Bayern. It was the last kick of the match.
Bayern had 56 percent of the possession and more than 20 shots, to Dortmund's 12. The home side also suffered injury worries. Ismael Saibari (ankle) and Serge Gnabry (thigh) both went off in the first half, and Michael Olise had to come off in the 84th minute.
The injuries are a concern before Bayern's next Champions League game against Atletico Madrid. For now, Bayern stay top of the Bundesliga on goal difference, with Dortmund right behind them.
