Glenn Maxwell Retires From International Cricket After 14-Year Australia Career
Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket. The Australian all-rounder announced the decision on Monday, November 2. He is 38. He had already retired from ODIs in June 2025. He has now ended his T20I career as well. He is also walking away from first-class and List A cricket.
Maxwell's last game for Australia was their final match at the 2026 T20 World Cup, against Oman. Australia did not progress beyond the group stage. Reports say selectors are going with fresh players for the upcoming white-ball series against England. Maxwell had been tempted to prepare for the T20I in Melbourne, but he decided to call time. He spoke about the decision on the Final Word podcast. He said he had several talks before and after the T20 World Cup.
He is not leaving cricket altogether. Maxwell will keep playing franchise T20 cricket. He is set to play for the Melbourne Stars in the upcoming Big Bash League. In September, he led Belfast Wolves to the final of the first European T20 Premier League.
His career lasted 14 years. He played 286 international matches, scored 7,226 runs and took 136 wickets. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in August 2012.
