Marseille Beat Toulouse 2-0 for Fourth Straight Ligue 1 Win as Harit and Gouiri Score
Marseille beat Toulouse 2-0 at the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday, November 1, in a Ligue 1 Matchday 9 game. Amine Harit scored within the first two minutes. Amine Gouiri added a second in the 25th minute. It was Marseille's fourth league win in a row, and it lifted them from ninth to sixth place.
Marseille started at a fast pace. They won the ball high up the pitch, and Gouiri sent Harit through. Harit hit a first-time shot with the outside of his right foot. It beat goalkeeper Guillaume Restes into the bottom corner. Harit was named Man of the Match.
Toulouse had a good response. They created a big double chance, but goalkeeper Jeffrey De Lange saved a shot from Jörgensen. Nnadi then blocked Casper Tengstedt's follow-up with his head. Marseille then scored again from another mistake. Rasmus Nicolaisen made a poor clearance. Igor Paixão headed it to Gouiri, who turned and fired a low shot across the goal for the second.
Marseille could have scored more. Paixão hit the post with a header, but he was flagged offside. Gouiri also fired a shot that just missed the post. Himad Abdelli missed a one-on-one with Restes.
Toulouse pushed harder after the break. They had two goals ruled out for offside. Tengstedt had one disallowed in the 68th minute, and Hidalgo had another. De Lange held firm to protect the lead.
The win has a good story behind it. Marseille beat Le Havre 4-3 a week earlier. They are now unbeaten in 25 games against Toulouse, which equals the club's best run against a single opponent. Toulouse have not won at the Vélodrome since 2012.
Marseille now have 15 points from nine games. Their coach is Bruno Génésio. Toulouse are 11th with 10 points.
It was a good night for Harit. The Moroccan midfielder was praised by Génésio after the game. He showed he can score from a deeper position.
