Mbappe's Double Fires Real Madrid Past Rayo as Dortmund and Freiburg Stay Perfect

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid bounced back from their first defeat of the season to beat Rayo Vallecano 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, taking his tally to seven goals in six appearances across all competitions this term.

Mbappe opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after Florian Lejeune's rash challenge on Alvaro Carreras, then turned provider moments later, setting up Carreras to make it 2-0 after intercepting another loose Lejeune pass. Jude Bellingham added a third before the break, but Rayo hit back through Sergio Camello early in the second half and gave Jose Mourinho's side an uncomfortable finish, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois called into repeated action. Mbappe settled matters with a stoppage-time strike to complete the scoring.

Elsewhere in Europe, Borussia Dortmund maintained a perfect start to the Bundesliga season, beating Paderborn 3-0 as Felix Nmecha scored twice, including a spectacular bicycle-kick finish he called "the best goal of my career." Freiburg also remain unbeaten, thumping Borussia Monchengladbach 5-0 with braces from Yannik Engelhardt and Igor Matanovic to sit top of the table on goal difference, with Gladbach reduced to ten men in the rout.
