Mamardashvili to Start Over Alisson as Joe Gomez Returns for Liverpool's Spurs Clash
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed Giorgi Mamardashvili will start in goal ahead of Alisson for Tuesday's Carabao Cup third-round tie against Tottenham at Anfield, with Joe Gomez also available after returning to full training.
"I rate Giorgi very highly, I know him from his years also in Spain. We told him we tried to sign him for Bournemouth before I came here, he is a very good keeper. He is going to start tomorrow," Iraola said, while stressing there were "little doubts" over Alisson's continued status as first choice. Gomez, sidelined since suffering a muscle injury in a pre-season friendly against Sunderland, has been declared fit and available, though Iraola added: "It's a matter of deciding how much he can play, or what the best thing is for him." Conor Bradley remains unavailable, with the head coach confirming he "is not close to training with the team."
Iraola is expected to make wholesale changes to freshen up his side, with Trey Nyoni, Wataru Endo, Jeremie Frimpong and Lewis Koumas among those who could feature or start, as Liverpool look to bounce back from a goalless draw with Fulham and continue their unbeaten start to the season across all competitions.
