Deepika Sehrawat's 8 Goals Power India to 19-0 Rout of Uzbekistan

India's women's hockey team opened their Asian Games 2026 campaign with a 19-0 demolition of Uzbekistan in their Pool B opener at Gifu City Hockey Stadium. India led 8-0 at half-time before running away with the match in the second half.

Deepika Sehrawat scored eight goals, including five penalty corner conversions, setting a new Asian Games individual record for most goals in a single hockey match. Lalremsiami, Baljeet Kaur, Ishika, Rutuja Pisal and Neha were among the other scorers.

The win is India's third-biggest margin in Asian Games women's hockey history, behind a 22-0 win over Hong Kong in 1982 and a 21-0 win over Kazakhstan in 2018. Goalkeeper Savita Punia started the match and earned her 320th international cap, equalling Vandana Katariya's all-time record for an Indian women's hockey player. Baljeet Kaur also reached her 50th international cap in the same game.
