Mirabai Chanu Completes Hat-Trick of CWG Golds in Glasgow

Mirabai Chanu delivered India's standout moment at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, winning gold in the women's 48kg weightlifting category. She lifted a total of 190kg, an 85kg snatch and a 105kg clean and jerk, breaking Games records in both lifts and the overall total.

It was her third straight CWG gold, after Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022. Her CWG story began with silver at Glasgow 2014, the same city where she completed the hat-trick. Nigeria's Ruth Asuquo Nyong took silver with 168kg. Malaysia's Irene Jane Henry claimed bronze with 167kg. Chanu finished 22kg clear of the field.

Mirabai endured a rare shaky start, failing her opening 82kg snatch before recovering to clear it on her second try. She then produced a flawless 85kg lift on her final attempt to set the new Games snatch record. In the clean and jerk, she missed her opening 105kg attempt but converted it on her second try to seal the gold.

The win capped a dominant run for India in weightlifting at the SEC Armadillo and continued Chanu's remarkable Commonwealth Games legacy since her first appearance in 2014.
