Como thrashed Lens 9-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday. The result equals the biggest winning margin in the competition's history. Cesc Fabregas's side did it away from home, at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in France.

Como led 3-0 at half-time. They then scored six more after the break. Anastasios Douvikas scored a hat-trick in the 7th, 32nd and 58th minutes. He has now scored in all four of Como's matches. He leads the competition with six goals.

Ruben Aguilar scored Lens's only goal in the 65th minute.

The eight-goal margin matches two famous results. Liverpool beat Besiktas 8-0 in 2007. Real Madrid beat Malmo 8-0 in 2015. Como also became only the second team to score nine in a Champions League game. Bayern Munich were the first, when they beat Dinamo Zagreb 9-2.

Como are also the first away team to score nine goals in the competition. The previous best by an away side was Bayern's 8-2 win over Barcelona in 2020. The ten goals in this game also tie the highest-scoring match in the competition's history.

The night had a lovely story as well. Matteo Papaccioli is 18. He came on in the second half and scored in stoppage time. He is a member of Como's youth team and has not yet played in Serie A.

This was Como's first away win in the Champions League. They are in their debut season in the competition. They had already beaten RB Leipzig 4-1 and Manchester United 4-1 at home. They now sit fourth in the league phase table with nine points from four games.

It was a painful night for Lens. It was their third straight defeat in the competition. It is also a record Champions League loss for a French club.
