East Bengal lost 1-4 to Hwacheon KSPO in their second Group B game of the AFC Women's Champions League 2026-27. The match was played at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Wednesday. The defeat leaves their qualification hopes hanging on the last group game.
East Bengal began well. Captain Shilky Hemam sent Fazila Ikwaput through in the 15th minute, but her shot went wide. The Ugandan forward made up for it soon after. She beat defender Kim Ji-hyeon with her pace and finished into the bottom corner. East Bengal led.
Hwacheon levelled in the 26th minute. The match then turned in the second half. Wie Jae-eun scored from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute. The spot kick came after a Football Video Support review requested by coach Kang Sun-mi. Hitomi was judged to have fouled Jeong-min.
Hwacheon scored again three minutes later. Jeong-min broke down the left and crossed for Mun Eun-ju to sweep home. Wie added her second in the 76th minute. She ran onto a through ball from Kim Hyeon-a and beat goalkeeper Panthoi.
Ikwaput has now scored three goals in this year's competition. She also scored twice in East Bengal's opening win over Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.
The result lifts Hwacheon to three points. East Bengal are also on three points. They are third in Group B with a goal difference of -2.
The final round is on Saturday. East Bengal face 4.25 SC of North Korea. That team has already secured one of the two automatic qualification spots. Hwacheon play Ho Chi Minh City on the same day.
The top two teams in each group go through. The two best third-placed teams also qualify. East Bengal are the Indian Women's League champions. They are chasing a first-ever place in the quarter-finals. Kolkata is hosting this group, the first time the competition is played in India.
