Justin Greaves Bowls Five Straight Wicket-Maidens, a First in Test History

Justin Greaves produced a spell for the ages on day three of the first Test between West Indies and Pakistan in Trinidad. The all-rounder sent down five consecutive maiden overs, taking a wicket in each one. No bowler had managed that in Test cricket before, going by records that are freely available.

Greaves split the feat either side of lunch. He struck twice before the break, then came back after the interval and immediately removed Mohammad Abbas to complete the set. It also handed him his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, with final figures of 5 for 27 from 11 overs.

The effort beats the previous best of four consecutive wicket-maidens, held by England's Stuart Broad since a Test against South Africa in Johannesburg back in January 2016.

Greaves credited a simple game plan for the breakthrough. Captain Roston Chase had told him to stay disciplined with his lines and lengths and let the wickets come. That's exactly how it played out, as Pakistan lost 6 wickets for just 38 runs during the collapse.

Pakistan had looked well placed before the slide, with Shan Masood compiling his seventh Test century. But once Greaves found his rhythm, the innings fell away quickly, and Pakistan were bowled out for 282 in reply to West Indies' first-innings 311, leaving the hosts a slim lead heading into their second innings.
