Gulveer Singh Wins India's First-Ever Commonwealth Games Medal in Men's 10,000m

Gulveer Singh claimed silver in the men's 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. He clocked 27:49.78 at Scotstoun Stadium. Australia's Ky Robinson took gold in 27:48.93. The Isle of Man's David Mullarkey grabbed bronze in 27:50.28.

No Indian athlete had ever medalled in this event at the Commonwealth Games before. Gulveer's silver ended that wait. It also marked the first time since 1986 that no African runner finished in the top three of the men's 10,000m at these Games.

The race was run in heavy rain over 25 laps. Gulveer stuck close to the lead pack early on. He passed the 3000m mark in 8:39.2. He briefly slipped to fifth around the 6000m mark. He then worked his way back to third before the bell for the final lap. A strong finishing sprint carried him past several rivals to the silver medal position.

Gulveer is the reigning Asian champion and already holds India's national record in the 10,000m at 27:00.22. He won bronze in the event at the 2023 Asian Games. He has broken the Indian record multiple times since 2024 and recently entered the top 10 of the World Athletics rankings for the event.

This was India's second athletics medal of the Glasgow Games. Sarvesh Kushare had won silver in the men's high jump a day earlier. Gulveer is also set to compete in the 5000m later in the Games.
