Harjinder Kaur Bags Silver in Women's 69kg Weightlifting at Commonwealth Games 2026

Harjinder Kaur won the silver medal in the women's 69kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. She lifted a combined total of 227kg at the SEC Armadillo. Her total included 101kg in the snatch and a career-best 126kg in the clean and jerk.

Canada's Charlotte Simoneau took gold with a Games record total of 240kg. Australia's Nya Phebe Hayman won bronze with 218kg. Harjinder sat second after the snatch round behind Simoneau. She then set a Games record of 123kg on her second clean and jerk attempt before topping it with 126kg on her third to seal the podium finish.

This is Harjinder's second straight Commonwealth Games medal. She had won bronze in the women's 71kg category at Birmingham 2022 with a total of 212kg. The improvement to silver this time marks a big step up in her career.

The 29-year-old lifter is from Patiala, Punjab. Her result kept alive India's dominant run in weightlifting at these Games. Mirabai Chanu had opened India's medal count in the sport with gold in the women's 48kg. Gyaneshwari Yadav, Rishikanta Singh, Muthupandi Raja and Valluri Ajaya Babu had all added silver medals of their own, while Bindyarani Devi took bronze.

Harjinder's silver took India's weightlifting tally at Glasgow 2026 to seven medals from eight events contested so far.
