Dilip Gavit Wins Gold, Basil Takes Silver in Historic India 1-2 at CWG 2026

Dilip Mahadu Gavit won gold in the men's T47 100m para-athletics final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. He clocked 10.71 seconds, setting a new Commonwealth Games record. Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth finished right behind him in 10.83 seconds to take silver. Together they gave India a historic one-two finish in the event.

Gavit surged ahead over the final 30 metres to seal the win. Basil held off England's Kevin Santos, who took bronze in 10.85 seconds. Basil was born without his right arm and has enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2026. Interestingly, he had actually beaten Gavit at the Commonwealth Games selection trials, making their joint podium finish in Glasgow even sweeter.

This is India's first men's para-athletics gold at these Games. It also marked the second multiple-medal day for India in para-athletics at CWG 2026, after Sharmila Dhankhar's gold and Shilpa K Shyla's bronze in the women's shot put F57.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated both athletes for their performances, praising Gavit's speed and Basil's determination.
