Gulveer Singh Scripts History With India's First-Ever Men's 10,000m CWG Silver

Gulveer Singh won silver in the men's 10,000m final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, becoming the first Indian in Commonwealth Games history to reach the podium in the event. He clocked 27:49.78, unleashing a powerful finishing sprint on the final lap in challenging rainy conditions to seal second place.

Australia's Ky Robinson won gold, while Isle of Man's David Mullarkey took bronze. Traditional distance-running powerhouses Kenya and Uganda missed out on the medals entirely.

A serving Naib Subedar in the Grenadiers Regiment of the Indian Army, Gulveer hails from Sirsa village in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, and started his running journey on village roads and farmland trails. He made his international breakthrough with a 5000m bronze at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships, followed by a 10,000m bronze at the 2022 Asian Games, before winning double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi.

The medal was India's second of Day 6 in Glasgow, arriving shortly after Harjinder Kaur's silver in weightlifting, taking India's overall tally to 12 medals — two gold, seven silver and three bronze.
