Gabriel Jesus Completes Deadline-Day Move From Arsenal to Barcelona for £8.6m

Gabriel Jesus has completed a permanent move from Arsenal to Barcelona on transfer deadline day, ending a four-year spell in north London for a reported fee of £8.6 million (€10m).

The Brazilian has signed a contract running through June 2029 with the Spanish champions, becoming Barcelona's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, Joao Cancelo and Dominik Livakovic. Jesus travelled to Barcelona on Monday, completed his medical, and even watched his new side beat Rayo Vallecano 5-2 at Camp Nou before the formalities were finalised.

Jesus leaves Arsenal having scored 32 goals in 123 appearances since his £45m move from Manchester City in 2022, including 11 goals in his debut season. Injuries limited his output in recent campaigns, and he had fallen behind Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in Mikel Arteta's pecking order, training separately from the first team as his exit was finalised. Arsenal thanked him in a statement for his contribution over four years at the club.

For Barcelona, the arrival ends their short-term search for a recognised number nine following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, though the club remain interested in a future move for Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez, who was unavailable this window. Speaking after his unveiling, Jesus said he had "always had strong faith" that a move would materialise, revealing he consulted countryman Raphinha and former Manchester City teammates Cancelo, Rodri and Eric Garcia before finalising the switch.
