Everton Fans Demand Answers After Chaotic Deadline Day and Collapsed Balogun Deal

Everton supporters have demanded answers after a chaotic end to the summer transfer window, with the club's Fans' Forum issuing a public statement criticising ownership and recruitment following the collapse of a deadline-day move for striker Folarin Balogun.

Everton had agreed a £40m deal with Monaco for the USA international, but the move fell apart in dramatic fashion after concerns emerged during his medical, prompting a renegotiation of the deal's structure. Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro said Balogun was "not comfortable" with how he had been treated during the process, and the striker ultimately left Everton's Finch Farm training ground without signing, despite both clubs having signed the required deal sheet before Tuesday's 11pm deadline. Alternative moves for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa's Tammy Abraham also failed to materialise.

The collapse leaves David Moyes with only Thierno Barry as a recognised senior striker, after Nathan Patterson, Beto, Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam all departed within hours of each other on deadline day. Jack Grealish and Ainsley Maitland-Niles did arrive before the window closed, but that did little to calm supporters already angered by the club's handling of a proposed £40m sale of academy graduate Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest, which was blocked by the board following fan backlash.

"We were told there was a clear strategy... yet, once again, Everton have found themselves scrambling in the final days and hours of a transfer window," the Fans' Forum said in an open letter, adding that supporters "deserve a clear explanation of what went wrong." The episode intensifies scrutiny on owners The Friedkin Group and chief executive Angus Kinnear heading into the new season.
