Aston Villa Claim First Win of the Season, Beat Tottenham 3-2 at Home
Aston Villa claimed their first Premier League win of the season, beating Tottenham 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to deepen the pressure on Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi.
Johan Manzambi broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, scoring his first goal for the club after Villa capitalised on a spell with a numerical advantage down the left. Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead early in the second half, finding the bottom corner from close range. Emi Buendia put the result beyond doubt with a thumping strike from 25 yards, sparking chants from the away end.
Tottenham finally got off the mark for the season in the closing stages. Conor Gallagher scored the hosts' first Premier League goal of the campaign in the 86th minute, and Jan Paul van Hecke added a stoppage-time header from a set piece. Both goals proved too little, too late.
The defeat leaves Tottenham without a win through five matches and on just two points, their worst-ever start to a Premier League season. Villa, meanwhile, finally have a result to show for their own slow start under Unai Emery.
