Newcastle End Hull's Unbeaten Start With Fast Start in 2-1 Win at St James' Park

Newcastle ended Hull City's unbeaten start to Premier League life with a 2-1 win at St James' Park, racing into a two-goal lead inside the first seven minutes.

Joe Willock opened the scoring after three minutes, finishing a Harvey Barnes pass at the near post, before Lewis Hall doubled the lead four minutes later, sweeping in a second Barnes assist from the left of the box. Newcastle nearly put the game out of reach before half-time, but Yoane Wissa had a penalty saved by Konstantinos Tzolakis. Substitute Mohamed-Ali Cho pulled one back for Hull in the 67th minute, sparking a frantic finish in which the visitors fired 18 second-half shots but could not find an equaliser.

The result hands newly promoted Hull their first-ever Premier League defeat and comes five days after Newcastle's own 4-1 loss to Leeds. Head coach Matthias Jaissle made two changes from that defeat, bringing in Sean Steur and Willock, who scored his second league goal of the season, already one more than in his previous three campaigns combined. Newcastle move level on points with Hull, separated only by goal difference, with both sides now sitting seventh and eighth respectively.
