Haaland Completes Set of 25 as Man City Edge Eight-Goal Thriller 5-3

Manchester City maintained their 100% start to the season, edging out Sunderland 5-3 in an eight-goal thriller at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland settling a nervy finish and completing a personal milestone.

City led 3-2 at half-time in a match that saw the lead change hands three times before the break. Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring with a free-kick, Rayan Cherki and a brace from Antoine Semenyo extended City's control, but Brian Brobbey repeatedly hauled Sunderland back into it with a hat-trick, twice cutting the deficit to one goal.

With City's nerves showing late on, Haaland settled the contest nine minutes from time, sliding in at the back post to tap home after a break down the left from Josko Gvardiol. The goal also completed a personal landmark for the Norwegian, who had never previously scored against Sunderland, making him the first player to find the net against all 25 Premier League clubs he has faced.

The result keeps City perfect through five matches and three points clear at the top of the table heading into the international break.
