India Beat Zimbabwe by 90 Runs to Win T20I Series 2-0, Kishan and Varma Star With the Bat
India wrapped up the three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe with a game to spare, beating the hosts by 90 runs in the 2nd T20I at the Harare Sports Club. The win gives India a 2-0 series lead.
Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to field. India made full use of the batting-first option. Ishan Kishan led the charge with 81 off 44 balls. Tilak Varma stayed unbeaten on 60 off just 29 balls. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also chipped in with a quickfire 20 off 9 at the top. India finished on 219 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Zimbabwe never got close to the target. Brian Bennett top-scored with 32, and Tadiwanashe Marumani made 24, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Yash Thakur picked up 2 wickets on debut. Prince Yadav also took 2 before a hamstring issue forced him off the field. Abhishek Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3 wickets from his part-time off-spin. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 129 in 17.5 overs.
Ishan Kishan was named Player of the Match for his 81. The win also hands Shreyas Iyer his first T20I series win as captain, after a difficult run in the format on India's earlier tours of Ireland and England this year.
The two sides meet again in the dead-rubber 3rd T20I at the same venue on July 26, before India's white-ball season moves on to their next assignment.
