Kai Havertz Becomes Highest-Scoring German in Premier League History, Passing Gündogan With 46th Goal
Kai Havertz is now the highest-scoring German in Premier League history. The Arsenal forward scored his 46th league goal against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, November 1. The goal came in the 16th minute. It took him past Ilkay Gündogan, who finished with 45.
The goal came from a Liverpool mistake. Alisson played a poor pass from a goal kick, and Arsenal won the ball. Declan Rice picked it up on the right wing and swung in a cross. Havertz arrived at the back post and tapped it in.
Gündogan scored his 45 goals across two spells at Manchester City. Havertz had been level with him on 45 before this match. Opta noted that Havertz is now the all-time leading German goalscorer in the competition.
This was his first Premier League goal since the Chelsea game on September 6. Nineteen of his 46 league goals came for Chelsea. The rest came for Arsenal, whom he joined in June 2023. He is 27 years old.
The goal also came in a big game. Arsenal are the defending Premier League champions. Manchester City lost 1-0 to Brighton on Saturday, which gave Arsenal a chance to go top. A point at Anfield was enough to move them into first place on their own. Arsenal led 1-0 at half-time.
Havertz has been a key part of Arsenal's recent seasons. He won the Premier League with the club in 2025-26. He also scored in the 2026 Champions League final, which Arsenal reached.
Gündogan's mark had stood as the German record after his second spell at City. Havertz moved level with it earlier this season. He then needed one more goal to go past it. He got it against one of the biggest teams in the league.
Germany has sent many fine players to England. Few have scored as often in the Premier League as Havertz and Gündogan. Havertz now sits alone at the top of that list.
