Arsenal Beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield, Their First Premier League Win There Since 2012, to Go Top
Arsenal beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday, November 1, in the Premier League. Kai Havertz scored the only goal in the 16th minute. It was Arsenal's first Premier League win at Anfield since September 2012. The result took them back to the top of the table.
The goal came from a Liverpool error. Arsenal pressed a goal kick high up the pitch. Alisson played the ball into space, and Arsenal won it back. Declan Rice crossed from the right, and Havertz tapped it in at the back post. The goal also made Havertz the highest-scoring German in Premier League history.
Liverpool had their chances. Florian Wirtz hit the crossbar. Alexis Mac Allister missed a good headed chance. Liverpool took 17 shots, but none of them were on target. This is the first time Liverpool have failed to hit the target in a home Premier League game since Opta's records began in 2003-04. That covers 442 league games at Anfield.
Arsenal's own early threat came from Christos Tzolis, who was playing for the first time in a month. He forced a fine low save from Alisson. Bruno Guimarães and Noni Madueke also had chances to add a second goal. Arsenal then defended well in the second half. They played without William Saliba and did not concede a single shot on target in 98 minutes.
The win ended a long wait. Arsenal came into the game winless in their last 13 league visits to Anfield. They had drawn five and lost eight since a 2-0 win in September 2012. Six of those games came under Mikel Arteta, who drew three and lost three. Arsenal also lost 1-0 at Anfield in August 2025.
It was also Arsenal's 300th Premier League away win.
The table now looks good for Arsenal. They are three points clear of Manchester City, who lost 1-0 to Brighton on Saturday. Brighton are third, five points behind Arsenal. Liverpool are fifth, nine points behind.
Arsenal are the defending Premier League champions. They have started the new season well, and this win at a difficult ground adds to that.
