Celtic and Rangers Both Draw 2-2 as Celtic Stay Four Points Clear in Scottish Premiership

Celtic and Rangers both dropped points in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night, October 28. Each side drew 2-2. The results leave Celtic four points clear at the top of the table. Rangers are second, and Hearts are a further four points back.

Celtic hosted Dundee United at Parkhead and had the chance to move six points clear. Camilo Duran gave them an early lead, scoring his 11th goal of the season. Then the game turned. Zac Sapsford levelled with a header in the 28th minute. Three minutes later, defender Neil Farrugia put United in front with his first goal for the club. Two goals in four minutes had silenced the home crowd.

Celtic had to come from behind once again. Liam Scales scored the equaliser in the 65th minute. Martin O'Neill's side pushed for a winner after that, but United held firm. Jim Goodwin's men arrived in Glasgow unbeaten in five games, and they left with a point. The match came as O'Neill completed a year in charge at Celtic. The home side missed the chance to open a six-point gap, but with Rangers also drawing, the result can be seen as a point gained rather than two lost.

Across the country at Tynecastle, Rangers were made to work for a draw against Hearts. It was manager Derek McInnes' return to the ground as Rangers boss. Hearts turned the game around early in the second half. Claudio Braga and Calvin Miller scored for the hosts to put them in front.

Rangers did not give up. In the 89th minute, Olwethu Makhanya headed in to level the match at 2-2. That late goal kept Rangers second, four points behind Celtic and four ahead of Hearts.

With both Glasgow clubs sharing the spoils, Celtic keep their four-point advantage at the top. They have had to fight back from behind more than once recently, and defending cost them again against United. O'Neill said after the game that conceding goals is not yet a concern. For Rangers, Makhanya's late header earned a point at a ground that carried extra meaning for McInnes.
