Bologna Beat AC Milan 4-2 as Mbangula Hat-Trick Ends Milan's Unbeaten Start
Bologna came from behind to beat AC Milan 4-2 at the San Siro on Wednesday night, October 28. The win handed Milan their first Serie A defeat of the season. Samuel Mbangula, who joined Bologna from Juventus, scored a hat-trick in a Matchday 9 game that swung one way and then the other.
Bologna took the lead in the eighth minute. A mix-up between Cisse and Bartesaghi let Zortea win the ball back and play it into the box. Zortea passed backwards to Mbangula, who hit a first-time right-footed shot past Maignan. It was Mbangula's first goal for Bologna.
Milan responded well. In the 14th minute, Cisse pounced after Hutchinson's interception of a clearance from Theate and scored from close range. It was his first goal at San Siro. Then in the 27th minute he scored again, this time after a strong run down the right from Tomori. Milan led 2-1 and looked in control at half-time. Tomori had to come off at the break with a muscle problem, and Modric replaced him.
The second half belonged to Bologna. In the 60th minute, a free-kick from substitute Miranda led to an own goal from Bartesaghi and made it 2-2. Two minutes later, Miranda crossed back from the left, and Mbangula beat the newly introduced Diawara to score again and put Bologna 3-2 up. Milan never recovered from that blow.
In the 86th minute, Odegaard set up Mbangula on a counter-attack, and he completed his hat-trick to make it 4-2. Pulisic had a header saved by Skorupski late on, but it was too late for Milan to get back into the match.
It was Bologna's third straight away win under coach Palladino. For Milan and coach Amorim, the loss comes just before the Milan derby against Inter on Saturday. Milan stay on 18 points, seven behind leaders Inter and Lazio, who are both on 25.
