Genoa Beat Juventus 2-0, Napoli Thrash Monza 4-1 and Inter Win 2-0 at Venezia in Serie A
Three more Serie A Matchday 9 games finished on Wednesday night, October 28. Genoa beat Juventus 2-0, Napoli thrashed Monza 4-1, and Inter won 2-0 at Venezia to go level with Lazio at the top of the table.
Genoa 2-0 Juventus. Genoa, coached by Daniele De Rossi, settled the match in the first half at Marassi. Kingsley Ehizibue opened the scoring in the 12th minute with an angled strike. Tommaso Baldanzi then made it 2-0 in the 28th minute. The second goal began when Kalulu mishandled a clearance following a Genoa corner. Juventus never recovered, and it was another shaky night for Luciano Spalletti's side. They stay on 14 points.
Monza 1-4 Napoli. Napoli returned to winning ways in style. Rasmus Hojlund gave them an early lead, but Gustavo Varela, the top scorer in Serie A, equalised with a clever header just before the break. Napoli took control after the interval. A Politano corner from the right was met by a header from Rafa Marin to make it 3-1, and Kevin De Bruyne, brought on as a substitute, made an impact within minutes. Napoli added a fourth to complete the win. There was one worry for the visitors, though. Midfielder Stanislav Lobotka had to be taken off on a stretcher. The result lifts Napoli to 14 points, level with Juventus. The two sides meet at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday.
Venezia 0-2 Inter. Inter had to work hard. Venezia, who have only three points all season and sit bottom, looked the more likely to score for long spells. Akor Adams rounded the goalkeeper for Inter, but his goal was ruled out for offside. Venezia had a shot hit the crossbar as well. The deadlock finally broke in the last ten minutes. Matias Moreno and Redouane Halhal both turned dangerous deliveries into their own net within two minutes of each other. Those two own goals gave Chivu's side the three points.
The win takes Inter to 25 points, level with Lazio at the top. Inter have dropped only two points from nine games. Next up for them is the Milan derby on Saturday, against a Milan side who lost 4-2 to Bologna on the same night.
